Dr. Josh Adler named Chief Medical Officer of UCSF Medical Center
After a comprehensive national search, Dr. Josh Adler was selected as Chief Medical Officer of the UCSF Medical Center.
Full text of email announcement from UCSF CEO Mark Laret is below.
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Josh Adler as Chief Medical Officer of UCSF Medical Center, effective July 1, 2009 and subject to Regental approval.
Dr. Adler earned his medical degree from UC San Diego and completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at UCSF. After his training, he joined the UCSF faculty, serving in clinical leadership positions at the Veterans' Administration Medical Center, including Chief Medical Officer for the Sierra Pacific VA Network. He later returned to Parnassus/Mount Zion to direct the ambulatory practices in the UCSF Department of Medicine. Dr. Adler has served as Associate Chief Medical Officer for ambulatory care since 2004, with overall responsibility for quality, patient satisfaction and strategic planning for the 95 UCSF ambulatory care practices. For the past year, Dr. Adler has filled the role of interim co-Chief Medical Officer with Dr. Adrienne Green.
After a comprehensive national search, we selected Dr. Adler because of his proven track record at UCSF, his ability to work across departments to solve problems, and his commitment to patient safety, quality and satisfaction. As CMO, Dr. Adler will direct the Medical Center departments of Medical Staff Affairs, Patient Safety and Quality Services and Risk Management. He will serve as the liaison between Medical Center Administration and the President of the Medical Staff and medical staff committees. He will oversee all medical directors, assist the CEO in evaluation and prioritization of requests for strategic support, and work with other UCSF Medical Center executives to evaluate and implement new clinical programs, assure a strong compliance program and develop the annual operating and capital budgets. Dr. Adler will also maintain a part-time primary care practice and continue to direct the Pathways to Discovery Program. In July, Dr. Green will return to her position as Associate Chief Medical Officer for inpatient services, continuing to play a central role in patient throughput, utilization and other important initiatives.
I would like to thank the CMO search committee, led by Dr. Nancy Ascher and Dr. Talmadge King, for its time and effort in assisting with this important recruitment. Please join me in acknowledging the outstanding work that both Dr. Adler and Dr. Green have done over the past year, and in welcoming Dr. Adler as our new Chief Medical Officer.
Sincerely,
Mark Laret
Chief Executive Officer
UCSF Medical Center
