Dr. Washington is one of the founders of the Medical Effectiveness Research Center for Diverse Populations (MERC), which is engaged in research regarding minority and underserved populations for over two decades. He holds degrees from Howard University (B.S.); the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health(M.P.H); the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine (M.D.); and Harvard University, School of Public Health (M.Sc).

Research
Dr. Washington is the author of more than 100 publications and numerous institutional reports on topics in his major areas of research, which include effectiveness of reproductive health services, prevention of diseases in women, patient preference in medical decision-making, quality of health care, and racial/ethnic disparities in health outcomes.

Training
Dr. Washington plays an important leadership role in training the next generation of researchers and providers interested in explaining and eliminating health disparities.
