Click on name to send email Research interests:Leah is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine, and is a candidate for the Master's degree in Advanced Study in Clinical Research through the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She has an overarching interest in health communication, particularly as it pertains to limited English proficiency patients. She has conducted research on the experiences of clinicians in use of interpreters in primary care practice, and continues through her collaboration on the Evaluation of Video Medical Interpretation project in Alameda County to explore the effect of different types of interpretation on patient comprehension of diagnoses, medications, and follow-up two weeks post-discharge from the hospital. She has a growing interest in patient comprehension of breast cancer testing and diagnoses and the effect of poor comprehension on process and clinical outcomes, particularly for women of limited English proficiency and from diverse communities.
