Research interests: Dr. Juarbe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Health Care Nursing and the Community Core Leader at the Center for Aging in Diverse Communities. Her program of research focuses on adherence to health promotion behaviors among Latinas, specifically, physical activity and healthy dietary behaviors. She completed an NHLBI FIRST Investigator Award with Latinas with cardiac risk factors and developed an intervention to increase PA and improve nutritional practices. Her research is currently funded for cross-cultural replication with the National Institutes of Health, México. In 2003, she received the American Heart Association, Martha N. Hill New Investigator Award for these research endeavors.  She shares the responsibility to teach courses focused on family health. She teaches doctoral level Advanced Nursing Science Seminars in women’s health and graduate program courses for Family Nurse Practitioner students.  She has received several awards for teaching excellence and community service to the Latino Community.
