Research interests: 1. Health workforce: Examining trends in the racial and ethnic diversity of physicians, nurses, dentists and other health professionals and strategies to enhance diversity in the health professions, and investigating the implications of workforce diversity for access to and quality of care.
2. Language, literacy and communication: Investigating the effects of limited English proficiency and low literacy on process of care and health outcomes; exploring the interaction between patient-clinician relationships and decision making. 3. Primary care: Investigating innovative strategies to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of primary care practice, especially for disadvantaged populations.
