Research interests: Current research projects are aimed at determining how best to implement practice guidelines and quality improvement initiatives related to appropriate antibiotic use at the community level, and tailoring these activities for Hispanic populations. Intervention strategies have included educational campaigns targeting households, patients in waiting rooms, patients and doctors in examination rooms, as well as the general public through mass media campaigns. As a clinical investigator, I am also interested in the evaluation and management of acute illnesses, such as bronchitis and urinary tract infections. We have developed computer kiosk modules that use audio-visual/interactive formats to overcome language and literacy barriers.
