Current Academic and/or Research Activities
Dr. Beattie's research is in the field of breast cancer prevention. She
is specifically interested in the role of endogenous hormones and their
relationship to breast cancer risk, decision making in women at risk of
breast cancer, and genetic predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer.
Dr. Beattie is the physician-consultant to the Cancer Risk Program at the
UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center and at San Francisco General Hospital.
She interacts with genetic counsellors, oncologists, OB/GYN's and
surgeons in this program. She practices primary care at the UCSF Women's
Health Center, and her research is conducted at the UCSF Women's Health
Clinical Research Center.
Dr. Beattie's teaching spans several disciplines: epidemiologic methods,
women's health, general medicine, and cancer prevention. She teaches at
the medical student, resident, and faculty levels. She has given grand
rounds at UCSF and at several other hospitals on the following topics:
Genetic counselling, headaches, post-menopausal hormone therapy, breast
cancer prevention, coronary artery disease in women.
